In the winter sports region which includes Abtenau, winter sports fans of all ages are greeted by countless opportunities. Skiers, whether casual or ambitious, can look forward to beautifully groomed pistes and much, much more, both in Abtenau as well as the entire Dachstein West Ski Alliance:

Ski Schools

  • Ski school for big and small in the unique Dachstein West ski region – only 15 min from Hotel Moisl.
  • With the help of a magic carpet and numerous surprises, the kids will be transformed into true pros one step at a time! This ski school is particularly handy for parents who would like to hit the slopes themselves while their kids are busy learning the basics! 
  • You will find another option at the valley station of the Kopfbergbahn in Annaberg, where they offer childcare programs for kids.
  • Freeride Alpin ski school and Kopfbergbahn Annaberg. 

Cross-Country Skiing

  • Heated ski room for your equipment (also cross-country gear)

  • Free cross-country beginners' course every Tuesday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM (ca. end of December – ca. mid-March). Registration information is available from us right here at the reception!

  • Abtenau greets you with more than 35 km of cross-country ski trails which circle the town center of Abtenau. In addition to XC trails for classic as well as "skating" technique, you will also find a 1 km floodlit trail right in the center of Abtenau itself, lit up every evening and also maintained with snowmaking machines.

  • Cross-country trails in Lammertal – close by you will find numerous other great XCing opportunities in Lammertal. 

Sledding

On your sleds, set, GO!!!
  • Exciting 3km sled rides on our local mountain, the Karkogel – only a few minutes from the hotel! Sleds and toboggans can be rented locally, next to the valley station. Until the last lift ride up the mountain at 4:15 PM, you can ride the gondola in comfort to the top of the sled run. If you are more energetic, you can also walk up to the mountain station via the newly built road (takes roughly 45 min) 
  • Especially exciting for kids: evening tobogganing (we'll let you know once you arrive precisely when night sledding will take place!)
  • Winter sledding on the Karkogel

Ice Skating 

The ice-skating rink in the town center of Abtenau is open daily during the winter months (except Tuesday) from 3 to 7:30 PM. Ice skates can be rented right next to the ice rink.

Fun and Action

Snowbike

On special bikes and with mini skis on their feet, kids can zoom down the pistes just like the grown-ups – a unique, action-packed experience! 

Airboard

Pure fun – riding an air mattress taken to a whole new level, you will slide down a 3 km long sled run, steering by shifting your weight from side to side - something you should definitely give a try! 

Kufenbockerl

Carving with a twist! On converted miniature sleds! Fun for the whole family!
